Pianist Izumi Kimura has performed extensively since moving from Japan in 1995 to Ireland. She has worked with many leading performers and ensembles from contemporary classical, jazz and improvised music disciplines. Over the past decade, her primary focus has been expanding the lines between interpretation, composition, and improvisation.
Izumi has worked in various formats with institutions, ensembles and small groups, including RTE Symphony and Concert Orchestras, Crash Ensemble, Michael d'Arcy, Mia Cooper, Ken Edge, Benjamin Dwyer and many more from the world of classical/contemporary classical music, and with improvising musicians such as Barry Guy, Gerry Hemingway, Ramon Lopez, Dominique Pifarély, Oki Itaru, Benoît Delbecq, Stéphane Payen, Tommy Halferty, Ronan Guilfoyle, Joe O'Callaghan, Cora Venus Lunny, Lina Andonovska, and many more.
Izumi draws inspiration from her collaborations with visual artists and has ongoing projects with Jaki Irvine, Anthony Wigglesworth, Anthony Kelly, and Helen O'Connell.
